The Amazing Race

A few weeks ago our ward had its' YM/YW youth conference.  The theme was the amazing race.  Scott is one of  the Young Men leaders so he attended as did our daughters Holly and Emily.  The first night they had a BBQ and played some fun team building games  at a nearby park.  Scott was in charge of several of the games.  You can see him giving instructions below.

The next day the kids were divided into groups for the Amazing Race.  The groups had a member of each class in them.  This is a picture of Emily's team.

Here they are playing a fun Egyptian game.  The youth leaders in our ward did an awesome job planning all the activities and put in lots of time and energy planning for this youth conference.

This was a game where they had to walk on some boards together.  All these pictures were taken by YM/YW leaders and then shared for all the parents to enjoy.

 Scott helped with the yucky food challenge.   He presented a plate of food to each team and they had to work together to eat all the food on the plate.

There was seaweed, baby food, jello worms (that looked like real worms), tapioca dyed green, anchovies, and a sardine.

 All of the groups completed the challenge but not without making some pretty disgusted faces.  They also had to drink some V8 juice that was dyed brown.

The last activity I have a picture of is a water game where they had to move water from one area to another using just a rope and these buckets.

Holly, Emily, and Scott all enjoyed the youth conference.

Today I am thankful that:
* Holly and Emily are getting to spend a few days with their big cousins.  
*I got to go a hike with the YW in our ward and my daughter Holly. I really enjoy taking hikes and this one at Little Si was especially fun.

*Nathan had a great year in preschool and I got to meet this fun group of parents.

A package from China

My son Nathan loves lego hero factory robot toys.  He found a really cool robot on the computer and wanted to get it.  Sadly lego doesn't make that specific robot anymore.  Nathan's clever dad found the toy being sold from a guy in China for a cheap price and so he ordered it.  Every day Nathan looked for the mysterious package from China and it finally came.  The package was a white styrofoam box.

He waited patiently until dad got home and then they opened it together.  They weren't sure exactly what to expect.

 Nathan told us that it looked like the right toy.

 There were even instructions for how to make it.

 The instructions were much tinier than the lego ones that typically come with the sets but Nathan was still able to read them and make the robot Black Phantom.  He played happily with it all day.

Today I am thankful that:

*Nathan got to go camping with his dad over the weekend.  They had a good time and Nathan is already asking when they can go camping again.

 *Emily prepared and then taught Family Home Evening last week.  Big girls can be a very big help.

 *Megan finished her science fair board and did a good job showing it off at the school science fair.
