Snow at Last!

All winter we waited for snow and it never came.  Usually we get a few days of snow where we live.  Then on Friday, March 22nd, as the kids were getting ready to go out to the bus (7:40) we saw snow.  The kids quickly put on their coats and went outside to stand in it.

I few minutes later I made the decision that I would drive them to school so they could play in the snow a little longer.

Then it was time to drive them and I didn’t want to drive in the snow so I decided we would wait to go to school until the snow had stopped.  It was the perfect snow for rolling snowballs.

My girls worked quickly and made a nice snowman.  I helped with the snowball lifting.  At 8:45am the snow stopped with a total accumulation of 3 inches.  We had had 1 hour of fun in the snow. I got them to school about 30 minutes late but no one was being marking tardy.  Lots of parents had let their kids play in the snow before bringing them to school. 

As the kids were at school I watched the snow melt outside.  I put this little snow scene in my window (of a tree, snowman and penguins) in December in hopes that it would snow and it did.

By the time the girls came home from school this is all that was left of the snow, a snow pile where the snowmen had stood.  Holly and Emily had both gone to school before the snow started and they felt pretty sad that they hadn't gotten to play in it.


I pulled out our sand castle supplies and the girls made a princess ice castle with some of the remaining snow.

This week I am thankful that:
Nathan’s preschool teacher let him take home (for the weekend) one of the dinosaurs she had in the classroom for dinosaur week.  He loved this T-rex and even had it by him as he napped.

Megan completed both nights of her Willy Wonka play.  One of her favorite parts of the play was hanging out in the back hallway with her Oompa Loompa friends as they waited for their turn on stage.

We had lots of family come to watch the play including Aunt Laura and her three kids.  It is nice that we have family living close enough to attend fun events like this.

Easter cookies, spring time and the school musical

Last week my kids had a day off of school so we decided to make Easter cookies.
We invited my mom to come and help us and we all had a fun time.  More hands make happy work.
We also went shopping on their day off and three of the girls got matching shoes for church from Payless shoe store.

I love that spring has arrived here in Washington.  These small daffodils are in full bloom in our
backyard.

Crocuses are blooming in the grass at the church and I took my class out to see them.  I have five boys in my class so one is missing from this picture.
This is our big musical week.  Yesterday we had the tech rehearsal.  Emily got to help out backstage with her friend Grace.  These two are almost related since Grace’s aunt married Emily’s uncle.  Emily said some of the kids in the musical were saying to each other “she was Belle last year”.  That made Emily feel really special.

This week I am thankful that:
*my visiting teachers took me out to lunch at the Olive Garden.  I love that restaurant but rarely go there because it is 30 minutes away and I don’t have someone to go with.

*Holly successfully got her drivers permit.  She starts drivers ed. next week.

*Nathan has been a pretty good boy lately and loves doing play dough almost everyday.  He plays play dough with dinosaurs, bugs, and little ninja toys.

March

Last week I got to help in Nathan's preschool class.  He showed me the mud that he loves to stomp around in. 

And the big mud puddles that he can dig in.

Holly pulled out her colored pencils and drew a picture of one of the daffodils I had in the kitchen.  The daffodils have now died but the picture remains.

Holly also performed in a band concert.  I am so proud of her for sticking with band this year.  It was a rough start for her since she had not been in band for 2 years but she has really enjoyed being in high school band.  She just signed up for band again next year.

Megan deserves kudos for sticking with basketball too.  We had to convince her to join the team (they needed another player on the team and we thought it would be a good experience for her).  Several of her friends were on the team so that was fun but losing every game was not fun.  She only wants to do basketball again if she can be on a winning team. 

These two girls make me smile.  Don't they make cute Leprechauns?

As a mom I feel exhausted nearly everyday.  When my kids help out at home and are kind to one another it really makes my day.  One of my sweet girls wrote this message for me and I just had to take a picture of it so I could always remember it.

 

Today I am thankful that:

*Seminary is cancelled for tomorrow so we all get to sleep in.

*Our flowers are so close to blooming.  I can't wait for all the blossoms.

*My cousin is getting married in May and I am going to his wedding (without my kids!!)





A new craft!

This week I read about the Clover pom pom maker on a friends’ blog.  Since I have lots of yarn from my Grandma, and my kids and I like to be crafty, I headed out to the store to buy one.  Using the Michaels’ 50% off one item coupon I spent only $4 on it.

I pulled out the yarn and my girls got right to work making pom poms.  They are fun and easy to make.

Over the next few days these girls made about 8 pom poms and hung them all together in a row from the upstairs (I’m not sure why).

Nathan and I watched a movie one day when we were both feeling a little sick and made lots of pom poms.  We hung them from the mantel for spring time decorations.

Nathan likes to make angry faces for the camera.

Today I am thankful that:
*Holly helped Nathan’s wish come true.  He wanted a T-Rex dinosaur just like the one he saw on the Lego website so Holly printed out a picture of it and made it.

*Megan worked hard in music class and learned how to play the recorder.  She memorized all 8 of her songs and got her black belt in recorder karate.

*Megan scored her first basket in her basketball game today.  Her team is new to the sport and the baskets they make are few and far between so this was a great success!
