My Parent's Mission Blog

At the beginning on September my parents began their mission for the Mormon church.  They spent two weeks in Utah at the Missionary training center where they had a great experience.  Then they drove 3 days across the country to the great state of Kentucky.  They were trained for their job working in the mission office for one week by the departing senior missionaries.  They have now completed one week on their own.  My parents are such hard workers and I am proud of all they have accomplished on the first month of their mission.

 

This picture was taken of them at their house on the night they were set apart as full time missionaries.  We will miss them while they are gone for 2 years.  Luckily we can visit them in Kentucky.

Nathan turns 5

I can't believe my baby and only son is five years old, time flies.  He sure is a fun boy and has taught us so much through the years.

On Saturday we celebrated Nathan's birthday.  After eating his breakfast he opened his gifts.  He was so excited and couldn't wait another minute.  He had been counting down to his birthday for months.  Megan gave him little laser lights that fit on his fingers.  He is wearing them in the picture below.  He likes wearing them because then he feels like a robot with lasers.

He also got several lego sets.  This is a bald eagle made out of legos.  His sister Megan helped him build all of his new sets.

Nathan also got a nerf bow and arrow that shoots foam darts.

Nathan loved playing with his new toys all Saturday.  I took him to the park to try out his new radio controlled excavator and it really worked.  We went to Arby's for dinner since it is Nathan's favorite restaurant.  We ate cupcakes and sang happy birthday to him when we got home.

Today I am thankful that
*I am not starting a new job.  Scott just started a new job as well as my parents on their mission and they have a lot of new things to learn.  Holly and Emily are already feeling some frustration at school with projects.
*Nathan is liking his new preschool this year so far. Last year he was at the farm preschool but by the end of the year he really didn't like it so this year he is trying a new preschool.
*The sun is still shining.  I just love the sun and will miss it once the gray days come.

Back to school

This week our leisurely days of summer ended and we started another year of school.  Megan is in fourth grade this year.  She is in a 4/5th split class so that should be interesting.

Melissa is in second grade.  Her teacher is fresh out of college and looks like she could be 18.

 Nathan is still four so he has another year at home with me.  His preschool starts in a few weeks.

 Emily is an 8th grader. She misses her teachers from last year.  Starting with all new teachers is always a challenge but I'm sure she will come to love them too.
                                         
Her class was the last to be assigned school netbooks this year and all the regular ones were gone so she had to got a loaner.  I'm not sure what that means but Emily was quite sad about it.  I guess no one wants their netbook to say LOANER.

Luckily she is in a fun food class at school and three of the Beehives from church are also in her class.

 Holly goes to school when it is dark so I wasn't able to get a picture of her heading out the door.  But her best friend Rachel signed up to be in band with her this year and because of that they ended up in all six school classes together.  Holly was super excited about this.   Now they get together every afternoon to do homework.

Tonight is the first football game.  Holly will be playing at the game and marching at half time.  I hope it doesn't rain.  This picture is of the marching band practicing one of their songs last week.

Today I am thankful that:
*we had buses for the past 6 years.  This year they took the buses away and now I am always driving or carpooling to the schools (three of them!).
*my parents are having a great experience on their mission and I get to blog about it.
*a new fun family moved into our ward from England and we are getting to know them.  Did you know the word pants means underwear in England?  They say trousers for pants.
